Malaria is caused due to Plasmodium vivax, transferred via mosquito bites, causing the disease. Common symptoms include fever, sweating, chills or shakes, fatigue, and chest pain. Patients may catch asymptomatic malaria, which does not cause fever. These are afebrile infections that can only be detected via classical diagnostic tests in the presence of sufficient parasites in the blood.
Another way of detecting asymptomatic malaria is molecular amplification techniques. Usually, the asymptomatic malaria variant can be caused by leptospirosis, herpesvirus, or typhoid fever. Other causes are scrub typhus, Japanese encephalitis, and dengue.
A general physician might prescribe antimalarial artemisinin drugs, chloroquine, or atovaquone. If you are keen on learning more about the prevention and treatment of malaria, you should consult a General Physician.
